How Do You Say What You Need?

My niece is two. Her vocabulary expands daily. She mimics the phrases she hears from her parents and brother like "Oh My Gosh" or "Do You Hear Me?" or "Bye,Bye---Haveagoodday---Iloveyou." Yet some phrases she says are her own. For example, if she is anxious or tired or scared, she will implore, "Holds You...Holds You."

She is not shy in her request. She recognizes unfamiliar territory and she calls for back-up.

As grown-ups I don't think we not call for back-up enough. We believe we are too old to ask for help. We know what to say as we encounter people-- just say the line you learned when you were two.

God does not expect us to speak to him in this robotic way. He wants to know what is going on in our lives and he wants us to cry out to him if we are anxious or tired or scared. He is our backup.

"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." Romans 8:26 NKJV
