What Direction Will You Take?
It’s at this time of year we think about new beginnings and self improvement. The new year gives us all a chance to start over and many resolve to make important changes in their lives. The trick for most of us is in not losing our resolve.
Last Summer, at the age of 48, I made the decision to go to college. My decision came after a life-long desire and the realization that time might be running out, especially since I can go only part-time. Most of the “obstacles” I had allowed to keep me from my dream of a college education are no longer obstacles. With my children grown and the support of my husband, I just needed to overcome my lack of confidence and fear of algebra.
Through prayer and encouragement of family and friends, I’ve successfully completed a Summer and Fall Semester with great success! And while I know I have years (and algebra) ahead of me, God is big enough to sustain me through all the ups and downs. I will not listen to the demons in me that want me to fail or quit. I am determined. I am focused.
If your heart’s desire is to get in shape, whether physically or financially, know that God desires that for you too. If you’re thinking of all the ways you could be a better person, be more organized, or self-disciplined, know that God wants that for you too. And when our desires line up with God’s …watch out and see what happens! Beyond seeing your goals met, your Faith will grow exponentially (one of my new college words).
What is your dream? What have you allowed to block your way?
Remember to “pray that you do not fall into temptation” Matthew 26:41 and to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
